the Person behind the Page

Let me introduce myself. My name is Dariusz Lewandowski, and I was fortunate enough to have a career as a professional basketball player.

Throughout my journey, I played for clubs in Poland, France, the Czech Republic, and Sweden. I also attended training camps with top European teams like Benetton Treviso, and spent summers practicing with NBA and Euroleague players in the U.S. Unfortunately, my playing career came to an early end at 28 due to recurring injuries. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, some obstacles are just too tough to overcome. But that didn’t stop my passion for the game.

Over the years, my love for basketball has only grown stronger. The more I understand it, the more I realize there’s always something new to learn or see from a different perspective. I’ll never stop learning—from players, from books, from coaches, and by attending coaching workshops.

I’ve been deeply connected to basketball for 35 years (I’m 46 now). It has taught me many tough lessons but also given me countless moments of joy. Basketball is my true love in sports, even though I enjoy playing tennis as well.

Now, I want to share what I’ve learned with the next generation of players. That’s how the idea for OrangeBallAcademy came to life.

On a personal note, I live near Rotterdam in the Netherlands with my wonderful wife, two amazing kids, a dog, and a rabbit. I also coach at a local club, BVVoorne. Outside of basketball, I co-manage a construction company called PrettigeKozijnen, specializing in the installation of window and door frames. So, if you’re ever looking to replace windows in your home, don’t forget to check our offer! 😊 Additionally, I’m working on building my own clothing brand for basketball players—OrangeBall, which you can find at OrangeBall.shop.
